“Cut-back” for new Kona coffee cherries
When the harvesting is almost over, it’s time to trim the coffee trees.
This process is called “cut-back”.
Once a coffee cherry is borne, they don’t ever grow back on the same spot.
Then, where will they appear next year? They will appear on newly grown branches.
Coffee trees will be trimmed every 3-4 years so they can produce healthy Kona coffee cherries.
We make chips out of trimmed trees and use them as a mulch.
At the UCC Kona Coffee Estate, nothing is wasted!
